Do you only buy records in Milwaukee and Wisconsin?
Yes — most of the collections we buy are in Milwaukee and throughout Wisconsin (and the Upper Midwest). We prioritize local and regional sellers for in-person evaluations and pickups.
I’m out of state. Will you consider my records?
Occasionally. We consider rare or high-value individual records from outside the region. If you believe a single record is worth $500+ (e.g., scarce garage/psych 45s, blue-chip jazz LPs, private press, modern grails), we’re happy to review it.
What counts as “high-value” for out-of-state submissions?
As a rule of thumb: recent verifiable sales (Discogs/eBay) around $500 or higher for a single title in similar condition. We’re most interested in rare 45s, sought-after jazz, soul, funk, punk/new wave, private/DIY pressings, and certain modern collectibles.
Do you buy small collections?
Locally, we focus on medium to large collections. For out-of-state, we typically consider only single high-value items or very select small lots with clear value.
Do 45s need original sleeves?
No. Sleeves are nice to have, but title, demand, and condition matter most. We gladly consider 45s without sleeves, especially scarce soul/funk/garage titles.
What matters more — titles or condition?
Both are important. Scarce titles in strong condition command the highest offers. We’ll always ask about title/artist/label and a quick condition check (surface marks, warps, writing, etc.).
How do I get an offer?
Locally: send a brief overview (approx. count, genres, any highlights) and we’ll coordinate a visit or meet-up. Out-of-state rare items: send clear photos (labels, matrix if possible), grading details, and any recent sales references. We’ll reply with next steps if it’s a fit.
Do you provide appraisals?
We don’t offer formal appraisals. We make purchase offers for records we’re interested in buying.
Which formats do you buy?
Primarily LPs, 45s, and 12" singles across many genres. We also consider select box sets and specialty pressings. (If in doubt, ask!)
Do you travel for pickups?
Yes — we regularly buy in Milwaukee and throughout Wisconsin, and often within the greater Midwest depending on the collection size and value.

How Can I Sell Old Records?

There are a few different ways to sell them including online, rummage sales or to a local vinyl shop. We strongly feel that most people make more money with less effort by selling to a local shop like We Buy Records. No lifting, shipping, or complex computer skills needed!

How Much Are Old Records Worth?

All records have different values based on title and condition. The more a title is in demand, the harder it is to get and the better condition it's in the more valuable it can be. And vise versa, common records with little demand in poor condition will have little or no value. See the next question for more specifics!

Which Types of Records Are Valuable?

While there are exceptions to every rule, most of the valuable records these days are rock, r&b, jazz, punk, rap, or very obscure genres. Most classical, country, Christmas, opera and kids records have little or no value.

What Is The Process For Selling Records?

We recommend calling, texting or emailing with a brief description of how many records you have approximately and what styles of music. After we know this we can make recommendations for how to most easily get you a cash offer!

Should I Clean My Records First?

No! Unless you are a record expert do not attempt to clean them first! You may ruin them!
